Kým je a ako to dokázal?
Kevin J. Anderson sa narodil 27.3.1962 a vyrástol v malom meste Oregon, v štáte Wisconsin, južne od Madisonu.
Že chce tvoriť fikciu zistil už vo veku piatich rokov, skôr, než vôbec vedel písať: v televízií videl film "War of the Worlds" a bol tak dojatý, že nasledujúci deň si vzal do ruky zošit a začal kresliť scény z filmu, rozkladal ich na podlahu a nahlas si rozprával príbeh (možno toto bol okamih, ktorý ho viedol o takmer tri desaťročia neskôr k tvorbe komixov).
Ako osemročný napísal svoj prvý "román" (na tri strany ružového papiera) - na písacom stroji v pracovni svojho otca. "The Injection" bol príbeh o šialenom vedcovi, ktorý vymyslel látku schopnú čokoľvek oživiť… a keď ho kolegovia vysmiali, oživil hordu monštier z voskového múzea a kostry dinosaurov.
Ako desaťročný si sekaním trávnikov a inými podivnými zamestnaniami našetril dosť peňazí na to, aby si mohol kúpiť buď vlastný bicykel alebo vlastný písací stroj. Kevin si vybral písací stroj… a píše doteraz.
Svoju prvú poviedku poslal do časopisu keď bol zelenáčom na strednej škole. Kým mu skutočne o dva roky neskôr poviedku prijali (do časopisu, ktorý platil iba zaslaním vlastného výtlačku), nazbieral 80 odmietnutí. Keď bol dospelý, predal prvú poviedku za skutočné peniaze (obludných $12.50), ale elán mu to nezobralo. Svoj prvý román predal vo veku 25 rokov a bol ním RESURRECTION, INC.
Kevin pracoval 12 rokov v Kalifornií ako odborný autor a editor v Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, jednej z najväčších výskumných ustanovizní v krajine. V Livermore Lab stretol i svoju ženu (Rebecca Moesta) a tiež svojho najznámejšieho spoluautora Douga Beasona.
Potom, čo publikoval desať svojich vlastných sci-fi románov a získal si všeobecné uznanie, všimlo si ho štúdio Lucasfilm a ponúklo mu príležitosť napísať príbehy z prostredia Star Wars.
Počas svojej kariéry nazhromaždil viac ako 750 odmietnutí a trofej "Spisovateľ bez budúcnosti (The Writer With No Future)" pretože ich dokázal vyprodukovať viac ako ktorýkoľvek iný spisovateľ. Keď sa ho pýtajú na radu, ako sa stať úspešným autorom, odpovedá krátko: Vytrvalosťou!
V roku 1991 si vzal za ženu Rebbecu Moestu, s ktorou žije doteraz.
Je nadšeným cyklistom, milovníkom piva a trampom a väčšinu svojich súčasných diel "píše" s pomocou diktafónu, ktorý nahráva jeho myšlienky počas dlhých prechádzok v Death Valley, sekvojových lesoch alebo v Rocky Mountains.
